After showering, etc. I found an International Herald Tribune - New York Times' international edition - a café au lait, and a pain du chocolat and read the paper for a few hours. I lost all track of time. Suddenly it was two o'clock, and I had been sitting at this cafe for heaven knows how long. Thibaut joined me (for another cup of coffee), and we began our day as tourists once again.
We walked from the Pompidou to the Champs Elysées. Thibaut insisted that it was a short walk.. Hmm. Google Maps says 37 minutes.
the Elysee Palace: the French Pres's House.
the Arc de Triomphe.
We walked the length of the avenue and back; then, we jumped on the metro to head toward the Jewish Quarter. By this time, around four, I was starving, and we didn't make it to falafel in the Quarter as I had hoped. Instead, I settled for a chicken and potato quiche; for 3€ it was DELICIOUS. Why don't we have food like this in the US? If we do, don't worry: I will find it in DC!
From there we walked around the Quarter and meandered back to the Jardin du Forum des Halles, adjacent to St. Eustache church. There were many little children (aged 3 to 4, maybe) playing in the area. They were adorable; I could have watched for hours.
While enjoying the nice weather (FINALLY!), we decided to cook dinner at home tonight - a big money saver. Thibaut planned and cooked! He cooked red and green bell peppers down, added chicken, then tossed that with tomatoes and lettuce. It was really good. Add that to a bottle of rosé wine and fresh bread, what a great meal. And I didn't do a thing! After talking about music for an excessive time and enjoying decaf coffee from my moka, it was time to part ways.
I want to tour the YSL collection at the Petit Palace tomorrow before meeting up with Thibaut.. I guess we will see what time the noise begins up stairs and if I get up early enough. Mom will be here in three days!
